Renewal of Temporary Visa I - Post-doc
Procedures for Renewing the Temporary Visa I – Based on Normative Resolutions 20/2017 and 24/2018 from CNIG
It is the researcher's responsibility to monitor the validity of their visa. SRInter does not send notifications or reminders regarding its validity.
Before starting the renewal request:
- Ensure that you are properly registered as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Research Office (Pró-reitoria de Pesquisa - ProPQ). The visa renewal cannot be processed without proper registration and procedure in the SEI system.
- Ensure that the renewal of your scholarship is also properly registered with the Research Office (Pró-reitoria de Pesquisa - ProPQ).

Renewal:
The renewal process should be initiated at least 30 days before the visa expires.
The renewal of the Temporary Visa I occurs in 2 steps:
Step 01: Carried out by UFSCar/SRInter through a renewal request in the MigranteWeb system (with the documentation mentioned below), which will be reviewed by the General Coordination of Labor Immigration, Department of Migrations, Ministry of Justice and Public Security (CGIL/DEMIG/MJSP), following the procedures and documents outlined in RN 30/2018.
Once approved, a renewal authorization will be published in the Diário Oficial da União (DOU).
Step 02: This occurs only after the authorization has been published in the DOU. At this stage, the researcher can continue with the renewal request with the Federal Police and obtain a new CRNM (National Migratory Registration Card).
How to process the request:
Step 1:
Postdoctoral Researcher - Visa type: Temporary I
Provide the following documents:
- Complete the "01 - Form - Extension Request" form – Fill in only the fields highlighted in yellow (this document should be sent in .doc or .docx format).
- Complete and sign the "02 - Commitment Term" document (send in PDF).
- Complete and sign the "03 - Foreign Remuneration Statement" document (send in PDF).
- Complete and sign the "04 - Declaration of Absence of a Criminal Record" document (send in PDF).
- Attach a copy of the passport – page with personal identification and page with the visa (send in PDF).
- Attach a copy of the CRNM (send in PDF).
- Proof of scholarship renewal – Grant Term or declaration from FAPESP (send in PDF).
- A statement issued by the project supervisor addressed to the Research Office, demonstrating the motivation and importance of continuing the research (send in PDF).
- Complete and submit the documents via the Google Form https://forms.gle/6Unf1DH2Z8Xr9nhr9to initiate the renewal request.
International Relations Office - SRInter :
SRInter will review the documentation and, if correct, will enter it into the SEI process related to the researcher. The process will be forwarded to the Research Office (Pro-reitoria de Pesquisa), requesting the signature of the Research Pro-Rector on the Request Form and the issuance of a Statement requesting the renewal.
Research Office (Pró-reitoria de Pesquisa):
Signs the form and issues the statement requesting the renewal, then forwards the process to SRInter.
SRInter will submit the documents through the MigranteWeb system and will wait for the publication of the renewal authorization in the Diário Oficial da União - DOU.
Step 2:
After the publication in the Diário Oficial da União, SRInter will notify the researcher and send a copy of the publication via email. From that point, the researcher should follow these procedures:
Renewal of the National Migratory Registration Card (CRNM) with the Federal Police
Registration based on publication in the Diário Oficial da União.
Note:
São Carlos: The city does not have a Federal Police service unit. The nearest service unit to São Carlos is in Araraquara – Choose Unit DPF/AQA/SP – ARARAQUARA.

Required documents:
1 - Complete the specific application via the electronic form on the Federal Police website (available under Register as a Foreigner in Brazil / Registrar-se como estrangeiro no Brasil);
Note: Type of registration: Registration after publication in the Diário Oficial da União - Registro Após publicação no Diário Oficial da União.
In case the Federal Police’s biometric data collection system is unavailable on the day of the in-person appointment, one recent 3x4 photo, colored, with a white background, on smooth paper, and taken from the front, may be requested.
2 - Declaration of electronic address and other contact information, preferably accompanied by a simple copy of proof of residence (click here for download of the template)
3 - Valid travel document or other document proving identity and nationality, according to the treaties of which the country is a party (Passport);
4 - Birth or marriage certificate or consular certificate, when the travel document or official identity document does not include information on parentage (following applicable translation legalization rules);
5 - (CRNM already includes parentage information)
6 - Page of the Diário Oficial da União showing the approval (print the publication sent by SRInter);
7 - Proof of payment for the CRNM issuance fee (receipt code 140120, amount R$204.77), when applicable (to issue the Union Collection Guide - Guia de Recolhmento da União - GRU, click here); After issuance, make the payment at the bank.

Attention to the notes below (depending on the case, additional documents may be required).
After completing the form, you will receive the application number needed to schedule an appointment for in-person service on the page https://servicos.dpf.gov.br/agenda-web/acessar. The researcher must attend the appointment on the scheduled date and time, bringing the aforementioned documentation.
Notes:
- It is considered a crime, punishable by imprisonment and a fine, to omit, in a public or private document, a declaration that should be included, or to insert or cause to be inserted a false or different declaration from what should be written, with the intent of harming a right, creating an obligation, or altering the truth about a legally relevant fact (Art. 299 of the Penal Code).
- At the discretion of the competent administrative authority, in case of doubt regarding civil registration, a current birth or marriage certificate may be requested.
