The Federal University of São Carlos

UFSCar is a Brazilian public institution of Higher Education and the first university hosted in the countryside of São Paulo State. Created in 1968, it started its academic activities in 1970. It currently features four campuses: São Carlos (main campus), Araras, Sorocaba and Lagoa do Sino.

The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs within several areas of knowledge. Comprising highly qualified faculty members, the institution develops scientific research and technological innovation, apart from promoting education and public outreach, which provides society with knowledge generated inside the university.

Nationally and internationally renowned, UFSCar is amongst the 11 best universities in Brazil in 2018 Folha University Ranking (RUF), which consists in an annual assessment of Higher Education in the country that has been conducted by newspaper “Folha de S. Paulo” since 2012. According to the Ministry of Education (MEC), the university achieved the top score in ICG (General Index of Degree Programs) – an indicator of Higher Education quality – and it is amongst the top 10 Brazilian universities. One of the main international university rankings, Times Higher Education (THE) placed UFSCar in the 16th position within 81 Latin American institutions of Higher Education in 2018.
